We’re looking for a skilled and passionate Sushi Chef to join our team at Sushi Nakazawa Los Angeles in the heart of the SoRo Village. Reporting to the Executive Chef and Sous Chef, this role plays a key part in executing our world-class Omakase experience and upholding the culinary standards set by Chef Daisuke Nakazawa.

Pay Range: $17.81 - $20.00 (Full-Time, Non-Exempt)

What You’ll Do
  • Prepare all sushi items according to Chef Nakazawa’s standards and the restaurant’s culinary guidelines
  • Execute precise cutting, slicing, filleting, and advanced sushi preparation techniques
  • Maintain a deep understanding of ingredients, seasonal products, and menu adjustments
  • Accommodate guest dietary needs within approved culinary parameters
  • Manage your station efficiently—setup, prep, service execution, and breakdown
  • Ensure proper storage, temperature control, product rotation, and waste management
  • Maintain kitchen cleanliness and uphold DOH and OSHA safety standards
  • Communicate effectively with BOH and FOH teams regarding menu updates and product needs
  • Support the guest experience through polished, professional interactions
  • Complete assigned prep, opening, and closing responsibilities according to departmental checklists
What You’ll Bring
  • 2+ years of experience as a Sushi Chef or Line Cook in a fine dining environment
  • Strong knife skills and mastery of sushi preparation techniques
  • Knowledge of allergens, dietary accommodations, and guest communication
  • Ability to work efficiently, cleanly, and with exceptional attention to detail
  • Composure under pressure and professionalism in a high-volume, high-standard environment
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 30+ lbs
  • Schedule flexibility, with the ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays based on business needs
