Job Description

Resource Counselor
Help people find clarity, support, and connection when they need it most.

At JABA, we believe no one should have to navigate aging, caregiving, or community resources alone. As a Resource Counselor, you serve as the first point of connection—providing guidance, information, and support that helps individuals and families move forward with confidence. This role provides direct support for the JABA Helpline , serving as a key entry point for individuals seeking assistance and resources.

What You'll Do

  • Serve as the first point of contact for individuals, caregivers, and professionals through the JABA Helpline and other inquiry channels
  • Provide accurate, unbiased information and referrals to community and JABA resources
  • Use a person-centered approach to assess needs, preferences, and goals
  • Conduct effective intake conversations and needs assessments
  • Maintain accurate documentation and complete timely data entry
  • Stay current on available programs, services, and eligibility requirements
  • Collaborate with internal teams and community partners
  • Represent JABA in meetings and occasional outreach events

What We're Looking For

We're seeking someone who brings both professional skill and a strong sense of compassion for the populations we serve.

Knowledge

  • Understanding of the biological, psychological, and social aspects of aging and caregiving
  • Awareness of the impact of disabilities and chronic illness on individuals and families
  • Knowledge of interviewing principles and techniques
  • Familiarity with community resources and public benefits eligibility requirements

Skills

  • Strong communication, referral, and information-sharing skills
  • Ability to build and maintain effective interpersonal relationships
  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills
  • Advocacy skills to support client access to services
  • Proficiency with computer systems and standard office software

Abilities

  • Ability to communicate effectively with individuals from diverse socio-economic and cultural backgrounds
  • Ability to conduct effective interviews and complete assessments
  • Ability to arrange, coordinate, and negotiate service referrals
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities

Qualifications

  • Associate degree or higher preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in human services or a related field

Required Certifications:

  • Inform USA (Association for Community Navigators) Certification within 1 year of hire

Work Environment & Schedule

  • Part-time (20 hours/week)
  • Primarily office-based with occasional local travel
  • Direct support of the JABA Helpline as a core job function
  • Participation in community outreach events as needed
  • Regular use of computer systems for documentation and resource tracking

Why JABA?

  • Meaningful work that directly supports older adults, caregivers, and individuals with disabilities
  • Collaborative and mission-driven team environment
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Opportunities for training, certification, and professional growth

JABA is an equal opportunity employer committed to building an inclusive workplace for all staff and the communities we serve.
