Burl Evanston is a new wood-fired restaurant in the Central Street Merchant District in Evanston, Illinois. The first restaurant from Chef Tom Carlin and partner Rachel Canfora-Carlin, known for their craftsmanship, warmth, and genuine hospitality, Burl will offer a refined yet approachable dining experience rooted in seasonality and community.
We are seeking an experienced Part-Time Bartender who will be responsible for delivering a warm, knowledgeable, and intentional guest experience in a full-volume, hospitality & service driven environment.
Experience & Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3 years working in a fast paced, full service restaurant
- MUST be available for Sunday Brunch service
- Passion for excellence, superior service standards, and a positive attitude.
- Must have open availability including evenings & weekends
- Strong interpersonal & communication skills
- Ability to multi-task and stay composed in a high-volume environment
- Must be able to frequently lift items weighing up to 50 pounds and have the ability to stand for extended periods.
- Arrive on time, prepared, and in clean and pressed proper uniform
- Must have completed and maintained certification in ServSafe Food Handler Certification, and ServSafe Allergen and BASSET Certification
Bartender Responsibilities & Duties:
- Actively participate in Sunday Brunch training, tastings, mock services, and team meetings
- Contribute to refining service standards, systems, and workflows
- Be adaptable and solution-oriented in a fast-evolving opening environment
- Support teammates and leadership to ensure a successful launch
- Prepare, serve and ring in all beverages accurately according to Burl recipes and standards
- Batch cocktails and maintain par levels
- Prepare and stock garnishes, juices and syrups. Report any spoilage to management.
- Maintain presentation of glassware by polishing and organizing
- Properly use bar equipment and machinery, report any issues to management
- Maintain FIFO standards and date protocols for all open product containers and bottles
- Ensure consistency in flavor, presentation, and portioning across every shift
- Maintain awareness of ticket flow and prioritize timely service for both bar guests and dining room
- Execute service with precision rather than speed at the expense of quality
- Monitor product levels and communicate needs to management
- Provide attentive, friendly, and polished service to every guest seated at the bar
- Guide guests confidently through the menu, highlighting wood-fired cooking, seasonal ingredients, and beverage offerings
- Anticipate guest needs, follow through on details, and create seamless experiences
- Maintain table pacing and coursing in coordination with the kitchen and expo
- Address guest feedback with grace, empathy, and professionalism
- Learn and retain full menu knowledge including ingredients, preparation methods, allergens and modifiers
- Follow the Food Allergy Procedure to ensure all steps are taken to keep our guests safe.
- Communicate accurately & clearly with the kitchen, bar, and support teams
- Execute service steps consistently and according to Burl standards
- Uphold responsible alcohol service at all times
- Maintain clean, organized, and stocked service stations
- Follow all food safety, sanitation, and health department guidelines
- Complete all closing duties including closing sidework, general cleaning projects, and any additional tasks assigned by leadership.
