Job Description

Shape mission-critical builds inside secure government facilities

Based in Northern Illinois, our client is a seasoned General Contractor with deep experience delivering federal work. They are seeking a Project Lead to steer projects from preconstruction through closeout, navigating federal compliance while keeping safety, schedule, and cost on target. Compensation up to $140,000 DOE plus benefits.

A day in the life

You begin with a coordination huddle alongside the superintendent and field team, aligning today’s work with the updated CPM schedule. By mid-morning, you’re reviewing submittals and RFIs, confirming they meet federal specifications and contract requirements. After lunch, you walk a secure government site with the COR, verifying quality benchmarks and safety controls. You close the day by reconciling procurement statuses, tracking milestones against budget, and drafting concise progress reports that keep architects, engineers, and government representatives informed.

What you’ll do

  • Own projects from preconstruction planning through final closeout and turnover.
  • Build and manage schedules, budgets, buyout/procurement, and trade partner performance.
  • Coordinate daily with superintendents and field operations to maintain momentum and safety.
  • Ensure strict adherence to federal construction standards, contract terms, and specifications.
  • Communicate consistently with government reps, architects, and engineers to resolve issues early.
  • Track milestones; proactively recover variances to protect schedule and cost objectives.
  • Maintain thorough project documentation, reporting, and closeout packages.
  • Deliver work on time, within budget, and in full compliance.

What you’ll bring

  • 5+ years of construction project management experience with a General Contractor.
  • Background on federal projects; experience with Naval or VA facilities is preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of federal standards and compliance workflows.
  • Proven ability to oversee multiple trades and subcontractors effectively.
  • Track record of hitting schedule and budget targets.
  • OSHA 30 preferred.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational capabilities.
