An established family law firm based in the Islip, New York area with an excellent reputation is seeking an Associate Attorney to join its growing practice. The firm is known for providing high-quality representation and personalized client service in sensitive family law matters. The team currently consists of one attorney, three experienced paralegals, and dedicated office staff, creating a collaborative environment with strong support and direct mentorship opportunities.

The practice focuses primarily on family law matters, including divorce, child custody, adoption, and related domestic cases, with some estate planning work as well. This is an excellent opportunity for an attorney who wants meaningful hands-on experience, mentorship, and the chance to build a long-term career in family law.

About the Opportunity

The firm is open to both newer attorneys and experienced candidates. Recent graduates will be considered if they have direct family law exposure through internships, clerkships, clinics, or prior legal roles. Attorneys from related practice areas with a strong interest in transitioning into family law are also encouraged to apply. Candidates must be willing to litigate and practice in the courtroom.

Responsibilities

• Handle family law matters including divorce, custody, child support, adoption, and related proceedings
• Draft pleadings, motions, agreements, discovery, and other legal documents
• Represent clients in hearings, mediations, and court appearances as experience allows
• Assist with case strategy, negotiations, and trial preparation
• Support select estate planning matters including wills, powers of attorney, and related documents
• Maintain consistent and compassionate communication with clients
• Work closely with paralegals and office staff to ensure efficient case management

Qualifications

• J.D. from an accredited law school
• Licensed to practice law or pending bar admission in New York
• Direct family law experience through internships, clinics, clerkships, or prior employment strongly valued
• Candidates with related legal experience and a strong interest in family law will also be considered
• Strong communication, writing, and organizational skills
• Team-oriented mindset with a willingness to learn and grow

Compensation & Benefits

• $90,000–$150,000+ annual salary , depending on experience
