Job Description and Duties

Under the direction of the Sergeant in the Golden Gate Division, Staff Services Unit, the Analyst II is responsible for the operation of the Department's Property and Evidence Program at the division level. The Analyst II works at the full journey level in order to ensure compliance with the standards set by the International Association for Property and Evidence (IAPE), in addition to the required audits/inventories within the Division property/evidence room and in the 12 Area offices. The Analyst II will travel throughout the Division to departmental facilities to conduct surveys, audits, and periodic inspections of command property and evidence rooms.

The Analyst II will maintain the Division Property and Evidence Program staffing roster and will ensure evidence officers, back-up evidence officers, and evidence supervisors are properly trained. The Analyst II will act as a departmental subject matter expert for evidence processing, packaging, storage, disposition, and chain of custody per policies and regulations. The Analyst II will act as a liaison between individual commands and headquarters Offices of Primary Interest (OPI) to implement new policies, procedures, or practices related to property and evidence room management.

The Analyst II will prepare legislative bill analysis, issue papers, policy revision, reports pursuant to accreditation requirements of the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA) and the IAPE, or other research projects under the direction of the Sergeant. The Analyst II will assist with the implementation and maintenance of CALEA and IAPE accreditation standards by coordinating the ongoing safety and security improvements.

The Analyst II will attend training and meetings held by local California Association for Property and Evidence (CAPE) chapters, providing feedback to departmental OPI's and commands within the Division regarding property and evidence management best practices.
